What is FoxChat Video?

FoxChat Video is a random video chat that lives in a browser tab. You get one stranger at a time, on camera, and you decide how long it lasts.
There are no rooms to join and no audience watching. Each call is two people. You can type in the chat while you talk, and if the conversation turns out to be worth keeping, you can carry on by message afterwards, the next evening or the next week, without either of you having to hand over a phone number. That is the whole product. It is built for the ordinary version of meeting someone: a bit of small talk, a laugh about the lighting, and now and then a chat that runs for an hour without anyone noticing the time.
Why it is named after a fox, what else there is to do besides the calls themselves, who it suits and who it does not, and how to reach the people who run it when you have a question about your account or a call: it is all written down on the about FoxChat Video page.
Fox chat, foxchat or fox video chat: which one is it?
However it reached you, it is the same place. Some people type foxchat as one word and others fox chat with a space; plenty search for fox video chat, or run it all together as foxvideochat. The name on the door is FoxChat Video, at foxchat.video, which is also what you will see in your browser tab and on your home screen, so fox chat video, foxchat video and the other shuffles of those words all end up at the same start button.
The longer versions mean the same thing too. A fox cam chat, fox chat live or a fox 1v1 chat here is simply your webcam, one stranger’s webcam and a live conversation between the two of you, which can last thirty seconds or most of an evening depending entirely on how well you happen to get on. No separate room hides behind any of those names. Same site, same button.
Ten past nine: what a first evening looks like
No two evenings go the same way. Here is a fairly typical one, start to finish.

You open foxchat.video
Phone propped against a mug. You press start. There is no form, so you are in the queue as a guest within a second or two.
The browser asks one question
Camera and microphone? Yes. It only asks the first time. Then the other window lights up and a stranger is looking back at you, just as unsure about who should speak first.
Someone in Lisbon is cooking
You talk about the pan on the stove. It is a nice minute. Then it runs out of road, which is fine. Next unlocks after a few seconds of every call, and you use it.
The one that keeps going
A student who is supposed to be revising for an exam in the morning, and who would clearly rather spend forty minutes comparing films that neither of you managed to finish than open the textbook lying face down beside the laptop. Before you go you send a message. Now it can continue tomorrow.
FoxChat Video next to a regular video call app
The camera and the microphone work the same way. What changes is who is on the other end, and how you get there.
| FoxChat Video | A regular video call app | |
|---|---|---|
| Who you talk to | Someone new, picked at random | People already in your contacts |
| What you need first | A browser, a camera and a mic | An account and their number or username |
| How many people per call | Two. You and one stranger | Often groups |
| Leaving a call | Next for someone new, or hang up | Hang up |
| Install | Nothing. Optional home-screen shortcut | Usually an app from a store |
In other words, a fox video chat is for the evenings when you feel like talking but do not have anyone particular in mind, which is a different mood from wanting to catch up with a friend, and it deserves a different tool. Calling your sister? Use the app you already have.
Who you are likely to meet

The night owls
Late in the evening the queue fills with people who are winding down, half watching something, and would rather talk to a person than scroll for another hour; they tend to be relaxed, a little sleepy, and very happy to talk about nothing in particular. Easy company.

The language swappers
Plenty of people come to practise. Someone learning English wants ten minutes of real conversation, someone else wants to hear how Spanish actually sounds outside a textbook, and a random match is about the cheapest way to get either.

The curious
And then there is everyone who simply wondered what is on the other side of the start button. Fair question. Press it and find out.
Staying a stranger until you choose otherwise
You start as a guest, and nothing about a match tells the other person your real name, your address or where you work unless you say it yourself, so the simplest privacy rule on any fox chat is also the oldest one: share what you would share with someone you just met at a bus stop, and keep the rest for later.
- Keep your surname, school and workplace to yourself for the first few conversations.
- Check what is behind you. Mail on the table and windows with a view give away more than you think.
- Move to messages before swapping other contact details. There is no rush.

Before you press start: camera, mic and a bit of light
Your browser will ask for the camera and the microphone when your first match connects. Allow both. If you tapped no by accident, which happens to almost everyone at least once because the prompt tends to appear at exactly the moment you are looking somewhere else, the fix lives behind the little lock or camera icon next to the address bar, where you can switch both permissions back on and reload the page.
Light matters more than the camera. A lamp in front of you beats a window behind you, every time. Headphones help too, because they stop the other person hearing themselves back.
- Face the light. Backlit faces turn into silhouettes.
- Use headphones. No echo, clearer voice.
- Steady connection. Wi-Fi beats a weak mobile signal.
- Say hi first. It is awkward for both of you; somebody has to.
Black screen, no sound or an echo once you are on? The fox video call guide walks through each fix. Most take seconds.

What costs coins, and what doesn’t

Doesn’t ask you to pay
Opening FoxChat Video, starting as a guest, getting matched and saying hello. You can leave at any of those points without spending anything.
Can cost coins
Longer video calls. Calls usually begin with a free stretch, and the app shows a notice with the per-minute rate before coins start to be used. If you would rather not, hang up before then. Nothing is charged silently.
Keeping it decent, on both sides of the screen
A random chat only works when people behave like they would with a stranger in a café. The community guidelines say it at length; here is the short version.
- Adults only. FoxChat Video is for people 18 and over. No exceptions.
- No capturing people without asking. Screenshots and screen captures of someone else need their consent.
- No harassment, threats or hate. Disagree all you like; do not go after the person.
- Report from their profile. Report and Block both live on the other person’s profile. Hang up first if you need to.
Something serious, or a takedown request? Write to [email protected], or read the child safety page.

Phone, laptop or tablet

Phone
Any recent mobile browser. Hold it upright and the other person sees your face, not your ceiling.
Laptop
The steadiest picture. Built-in webcams are fine; an external one is a nice bonus, not a requirement.
Home screen
It opens like an app, one tap away. How to add FoxChat Video to your home screen.
Questions people ask before their first fox chat
Not answered here? The call guide covers the buttons and fixes, and the contact page has the support address.

No sign-up form stands between you and the first match. You start as a guest. You can add a login later if you want to keep your messages and coins on another device.
Opening the site and starting a match does not ask you to pay. Video calls can cost coins per minute after a free stretch, and the app shows you a notice before any charge begins, so nothing is taken without warning. You can hang up before that point.
