When you first open FoxChat Video
You can press start without filling in a sign-up form. Behind the scenes a guest account is created so the site can keep track of your session. Your browser reports technical details to our servers the way it does for any website: device type, operating system, browser, a device identifier, network information, and your IP address. From the IP address we work out a rough location; a more precise location is only used if you allow it on your device.
If you later register properly or sign in with a third-party account such as Google or Apple, we receive what you agree to share there — usually your name, email address and profile picture. If you create an account yourself, we keep the email, username, display name and password you chose, and any optional extras — avatar, bio, birthday, gender — that you decide to fill in.
While you use it
Your browser will ask for camera and microphone access when you are matched; that permission is controlled by your browser and can be withdrawn there at any time. We also keep usage records — the pages and features you open, what you click on, the length of your visits, the page that referred you — and server logs showing access times and system activity.
Text messages you send to other people, reports you file, and anything you send to our support address are stored so the features work and so we can deal with problems. Other users must not record or screenshot you without your consent, and the same rule applies to you — see the community guidelines.
Still frames from your camera
The video and sound of a call pass between you and the other person through a real-time video provider, which has to carry that stream in order to deliver it. Separately from the call itself, there is one more thing your camera is used for, and it gets its own heading because it is easy to miss.
While you wait on the matching screen and while a call is running, FoxChat Video can grab a still frame from your own camera every so often. Face detection runs on that frame inside your browser, and the outcome is sent to us: the number of faces found, how large and how clearly the face shows, how bright the image is, and which match or call it belongs to. Depending on our settings at the time, the frame itself can be uploaded as well. How often this happens, and whether frames are uploaded, is set on our side and can change without anything looking different to you.
We use these stills for one purpose: safety. They help confirm that a real person is in front of the camera rather than a blank screen or a photo, and they help us catch cameras showing things the other person never agreed to see. They are not shown to the people you talk to, not added to your profile, not used to decide who you are matched with and not used to train software. They are handled as safety records and kept as described under How long it is kept.
When you pay
Coins, VIP and other paid items are processed by third-party payment providers. We receive billing details and a record of the transaction. We do not keep full card numbers; the provider handles them under its own terms and privacy policy.
Things you make public
Some parts of a profile are meant to be seen: your nickname, display name, avatar, public profile page, and any videos, posts or comments you publish publicly. Those can be viewed and shared by others and indexed by search engines. You can delete them whenever you like, but search engines and other services may keep cached copies for some time before their results catch up.
Your email address and phone number are private and are only used to verify and protect your account and to contact you. Passwords are stored encrypted and nobody, including our staff, can read them.
What we do with the information
- Run the service — matching, calls, messages, payments and the features you ask for.
- Tailor it — match suggestions, content recommendations and interface preferences.
- Stay in touch — notices about the service and replies when you write to support.
- Keep people safe — spotting fraud, abuse and breaches of our rules, including the camera checks described above.
- Improve it — understanding usage, fixing bugs, building new features.
- Meet legal duties — complying with the law, enforcing our terms, protecting users and the public.
To understand usage we use Google Analytics, which only runs if you accept it in the cookie banner, and analytics partners may send us aggregated or anonymized figures. Cookies and browser storage are explained on the cookie policy page.
Who else receives it
We do not sell personal information. It leaves FoxChat Video only in these situations:
- you have told us to share it;
- vendors who help us operate — hosting, content delivery, payments, analytics, support tools — under confidentiality obligations;
- a law, court, regulator or government demands it, or disclosure is needed to keep FoxChat Video, its users or the public safe;
- the business, or part of it, is merged, acquired, reorganized or sold;
- aggregated, anonymized data that cannot reasonably identify you.
Third-party logins, payment pages and links to other websites run under their own privacy policies, which this page does not cover.
How long it is kept
Information stays with us for as long as your account is open, and afterwards only as long as running the service, resolving disputes, enforcing our agreements or complying with the law makes necessary. Deleting your account starts that clock: personal data is erased or anonymized in due course, except what we are legally obliged to hold. Camera stills and the face-check results that come with them are safety records: they are kept only as long as reviewing reports, preventing abuse or meeting a legal obligation requires. Public posts other people have already seen or replied to can survive in anonymized form, and tax, legal or regulatory rules can require some records to be held for longer.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- send you a copy of what we have on you;
- fix details that are out of date or wrong;
- erase your data, apart from what the law makes us keep;
- export it in a machine-readable file you can take to another service;
- restrict particular uses of it in some situations.
You can stop marketing emails through the unsubscribe link in any of them or in your notification settings. For everything else, write to [email protected]. We answer within a reasonable time and as the law where you live requires.
How it is protected
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest, access is restricted and authenticated, storage runs on industry-standard infrastructure, and security is assessed and tested regularly. Even so, nothing sent over the internet or stored electronically is completely secure. A strong password you do not reuse elsewhere is the best thing you can add.
People under 18
FoxChat Video is for adults 18+ only (or older, where local law sets a higher minimum age). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we find that we have, we delete it as quickly as we can. If you believe a minor has given us information, tell us — and see the child safety page.
Updates and contact
When our practices, technology or legal obligations change, this page changes with them. For material changes we update the date at the top and give notice on the site or by email, so you can read the new version before it applies. Continuing to use FoxChat Video after a change means you accept the updated policy. Questions about privacy go to the same support address listed on the contact page.
